Case study template

The structure every case study on this site follows, published as an empty template so the shape of the evidence is visible before any real case exists.

Case study template — real anonymized cases will be published as they are approved. No client, number or outcome below is real. This page is not indexed.

This page is a template. It contains no client, no engagement, no number and no outcome. Real anonymized cases will be published here as they are approved, and each one will follow the seven headings below.

The template is published rather than hidden for a reason. The structure is a commitment: it says in advance what a case study on this site will have to contain before it can be called evidence, which makes it harder to publish something thinner later.

Context

What kind of company, in what situation. Sector, rough scale, ownership structure, and what was happening at the time — growth, transition, a new obligation, a change in the team. Anonymized, with enough detail that a reader can judge whether it resembles their own situation.

Problem

What the owner said was wrong, in the owner’s framing rather than a diagnostic one. This matters: the presenting problem and the actual problem are frequently different, and a case study that skips straight to the diagnosis hides the most useful part.

System issue

What was actually wrong underneath. Which layer of the value chain, which process, which missing ownership or missing definition. This is the section that distinguishes a case study from a testimonial.

Intervention

What was designed and what was changed, in the order it happened. Including what was deliberately not changed, and why. An intervention with no stated boundary is a list of activity, not a design.

Outcome

What changed as a result. Stated precisely, with the limits of the claim attached: what can be attributed to the intervention, what cannot, and over what period. No figure appears here unless the owner has approved its publication.

What this proves

The honest scope of the evidence. One case proves that something worked once, in a specific context. It does not prove a method generalises. This section says which of the two is being claimed, and a case study that cannot distinguish between them is not ready to publish.

Links to the relevant methodology and service pages, so a reader who recognises their own situation knows where to go next.

On why this page is empty. A fabricated case would contaminate the one thing this site is built to earn: being quoted accurately by people and by machines. An outcome that cannot be verified is not evidence, and a placeholder dressed as a result is worse than a blank page. This page carries noindex until it holds a real approved case.
